A Message From One Of Our Families

It is Cat Eigures (Luca's mummy) and it is official - I am nuts!  Let me tell you why and PLEASE support me (haha!).

Back in 2011 I started working for a Not For Profit organization who provide support to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.  It was a massive career change after only ever working in family law for years, but I saw it as a new challenge and a worthwhile industry to work in.  Over the past 2 and a half years it has become something that is very close to my heart and I feel very strongly about promoting support, respect and acceptance of individuals with disabilities of any kind, no matter how young or how old.

We have 35 individuals we support in our accommodation program as well as external participants who attend our Community Program and each one of them has carved a special place in my heart.  They all are such characters and never fail to put a smile on my face...  Let's be honest - they are not always accepted but it's all they really want... to be valued and respected members of their community.  Watching them strive so hard to achieve their individual goals every day is a huge honour and to see their sense of self pride in achieving the smallest goal is amazing, not to mention how POSITIVE they are about life!...  I can't describe it.

SO!!  In order to raise community awareness of our organization and the people we support, I am participating in a Charity Skydive Jump on 16 November 2013 along with 12 other amazing people.  In addition to raising awareness, we are also fundraising for much needed renovations to our new Community Program building.  The Community Program provides Alternatives to Employment for our individuals, Intensive Family Support, Respite and community based programs which focus on getting our amazing individuals out and about and involved in their community as well as providing families with a much needed rest as they can relax knowing their loved ones are well supported by a fantastic team.

I am absolutely pooping my pants but what better reason to jump out of a perfectly good plane than for a worthwhile cause such as this!  I would be so grateful for any donations, and will have a tin in the Small Friends foyer for anyone who wishes to make a contribution.

If you are close by and would like to come and watch the jump, you'll be sure to get a laugh as I will most likely do a number of very embarrassing things!!

Many MANY thanks in advance!

CAT EIGURES (the crazy one - haha) xx
